The end of the year is likely to be salty, especially for the back-to-school period and probably for the festive season. Indeed, a TrendForce report points to memory price rises starting in the next quarter. We’re talking about increases of up to 33% to 45%, depending on the type. This will have an impact on the price of components using the standards in question.

New memory price hikes in sight…

Memory prices are like a dog’s tail, coming and going. Prices go up and down. Now, unfortunately, we’re entering a bullish trend for the next few months. On the one hand, DDR4 is going to take a big hit since, as you know, due to pressure from certain Chinese producers, Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron are in the process of stopping production. Unfortunately, as these three companies are the major players, Chinese producers are unable to keep up with demand. As a result, we are witnessing “panic buying”, with companies placing large orders to take advantage of still-low prices. In short, all this is already making itself felt, with DDR4 prices sometimes higher than those of DDR5. But DDR4 isn’t the only memory to suffer this rise, as other types are also impacted. The Trendforce report mentions that GDDR6 will also see its prices rise. We’re talking here of a 33% increase, which is not insignificant, and the price of components dependent on this memory could be revised upwards. We’re thinking of AMD’s RX 9000s, which are equipped with this memory, but the most recent standards are likely to see a more moderate price rise. Thus, GDDR7 and DDR5 should be less affected, with an increase of less than 10%. Prices for RTX 50 and current-generation RAM should remain fairly stable. Finally, HBM, the type of VRAM used for server cards, is expected to rise by 20%.
