Intel and AMD are preparing the launch of motherboards for their latest generations of CPUs. The announcements are expected to be made during CES 2025, which kicks off in a few days’ time in Las Vegas. The actual launches will take place a little later. AMD will launch its B850 and B840 on January 15th. Intel, meanwhile, will release its B860 and H810 on January 13th.

What can we expect from AMD’s new motherboards?
AMD’s B850 and B840 are supposed to offer more connectivity and better power management. Let’s be clear, we’re not expecting a revolution, but a logical evolution to accompany the latest Ryzen processors. We’re expecting to see more USB ports, greater compatibility with DDR5 and, perhaps, some refinements in terms of overclocking. As far as motherboards are concerned, including the top-of-the-range references, it’s clear that AMD is playing for continuity. AMD’s B series has often been considered the mid-range solution par excellence. The new B850 and B840 should maintain this reputation, in the hope that the price positioning does not undergo a sharp inflation.
What’s new on Intel motherboards in 2025?
Intel’s B860 and H810 will be launched slightly earlier than AMD’s chipsets. They are intended to accompany the latest-generation Arrow Lakes. With these motherboards, Intel is seeking to offer cutting-edge functionality while remaining accessible. The H810 range, for example, is aimed at tighter budgets, without sacrificing PCIe 5.0 compatibility, at least in part. The pleasant surprise could come from the B860 series. Traditionally, Intel has positioned this range as the choice of gamers who want to exploit their processors without investing in technologies they won’t use. But there are whispers that motherboard manufacturers could integrate a high-performance BIOS and a few extras for overclocking. So far, overclocking on a Bxxx chipset is just a pipe dream, but Intel could surprise us with some unlocked features.
The brands will be rolling out all these references in the first quarter of 2025. The launch of the AMD B850 and B840 on January 15th, closely followed by the Intel B860 and H810 on January 13th, will certainly liven up the start of the motherboard year. Nothing totally revolutionary, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on price trends, which have clearly gone awry in recent years.
