New AM5 Ryzens this year?

This is the rumour of the weekend that emerged from an official Gigabyte release. Referring to some of its products, the brand claims that its AM5 motherboards will support the new generation of Ryzen processors due to arrive this year… So obviously, we’re not immune to error, but for the moment it seems surprising that after the Ryzen 7000 and 7000X3D, AMD is accelerating its schedule.

An early arrival of Zen 5 seems unlikely.

Many have been buzzing about the early arrival of Zen 5 CPUs since this rumour first appeared. Indeed, it might have been possible to see a refresh of Zen4, but the press release clearly states a “new generation”, which strongly implies CPUs from the Zen5 architecture. However, at this point we have no confirmation of this from our sources. Even if it seems obvious that AMD has not yet succeeded in convincing with its AM5 processors, the Zen 5 architecture must be based on TSMC’s 3nm with a production calendar that is difficult to change. For the time being, Intel has been able to offer more competitive products, allowing the blues to regain market share in the PC field. However, at the risk of dampening the enthusiasm of some, given the state of the market, it seems difficult to envisage the Zen 5 generation arriving before the second half of 2024. So this leak from Gigabyte could simply be a misuse of language to refer to the next processors (refresh, APU or pro range and future compatibility of this socket as currently known).
