Memory specialist Micron has just announced new SSDs for the corporate market. In fact, the brand has unveiled its 9550 series, models available in several formats and offering very high capacities!
9550 Series: up to 30Tb in PCIe 5.0!
The program features a series split in two, with the Pro range on one side and the Max models on the other. The wide range of formats on offer includes U.2, E3.S and E1.S. However, there is one significant difference between the Pro series and the Max: use. While the former is designed for intensive reading use, the latter is geared towards more mixed uses, with greater durability!
In terms of capacities, the Pro series has the biggest, with SSDs of 3.84Tb, 7.68Tb, 15.36Tb and 30.72Tb. These capacities are available in all formats, with the exception of the E1.S, which is not available in 30TB. On the MAX side, there’s no E1.S version, and the capacities are smaller: 3.2TB, 6.4TB, 12.8TB and 25.6TB.
Finally, when it comes to performance, of course, with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, you can afford high data rates. And that’s exactly what we find, with sequential read speeds of 14 GB/s on all models. Write speeds vary, with 6 GB/s for the slowest and 10 GB/s for the fastest. As for random performance, the datasheet mentions random write speeds of up to 3,300,000 IOPS for reading and 900,000 IOPS for writing.
Naturally, Micron was responsible for designing the controller, memory (232-layer 3D TLC) and firmware, as the brand specializes in this field.
