Soon you’ll have to pay the price of a good mid-range graphics card to buy a 2×32 GB DDR5 memory kit. In fact, G.Skill’s 64GB memory kit is now reaching $600, or even more if you take out NewEgg’s current promotions. At this price, it’s more expensive than a PlayStation 5 and even a RX 9070 XT! That’s crazy!

DDR5, 64 GB kits top $600!

RAM

Over the weekend, we published an article on 32 GB kits costing over €400, but this time, 64 GB kits are breaking the $600 barrier on the other side of the Atlantic with a G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB set. The latter is quite classic, boasting a speed of 6,000 MT/s, all with CL30 timing. But no, prices are going crazy, carried away by this upward trend in RAM prices, and NewEgg is showing this kit at $599.99, but with a 5% discount, which represents $40. Yes, without this promotion, the $600 mark has been passed! Otherwise, an equivalent kit in XMP can be found for a little less: $499.99!

Over here, the situation is just about the same, with prices skyrocketing. At Top Achat, you simply won’t find a 64GB memory kit under the €550 mark. On Amazon, you’ll also find Corsair Vengeance 64GB kits priced at over €600. However, don’t be fooled, as kits under €300 are out-of-stock kits shipping between 3 and 7 months. If we look at the more “exotic” XPG Lancer-type kits, the bill exceeds €1,000.

Once again, the trend is clear and the causes well-known. We won’t go into it again, but the peak in demand for AI is pushing up prices in this way… Especially as memory producers don’t seem to be in a hurry to open new production lines… Or at least, they’re waiting for the market to stabilize to avoid a production surplus that could send prices crashing.

In the meantime, paying the price of a 64 GB kit for a PlayStation 5 or an RX 9070 XT doesn’t really appeal to me!
