The idea of an RX 7600 XT with more memory resurfaces

Another rumor about a hypothetical RX 7600 XT from AMD. This is not a new idea, as we reported back in September. At that time, the name of the card appeared on the EEC website and seemed to offer different memory configurations. Even earlier, it appeared on AMD’s site, but the most likely cause was a typing error.

RX 7600 XT: towards a 16 GB memory card, announcement in January?

RX 7600 XT If the rumors are to be believed, AMD is planning an XT version of its RX 7600. As for the supposed specifications, the card could well exploit a Navi 32 GPU, a chip similar to that of the RX 7700 XT. However, this version would be seriously neutered so as to offer fewer stream processors than the famous 7700 XT.

On this subject, our Spanish colleagues mention a configuration of 2,560 stream processors, i.e. 40 Compute Units instead of the 7700 XT’s 54… All this, running at 2800 MHz maximum boost.

If rumors are to be believed, the card would then have 16 GB of VRAM, all on a 192-bit memory bus… This seems rather unlikely to us, since such a capacity on a 192-bit bus would mean opting for a configuration similar to the GTX 970. As a reminder, the card offered a certain amount of VRAM on one bus and a small amount on another, slower bus. In the end, either the card takes advantage of a 128-bit bus, to reach the 16 GB mentioned, or the amount of VRAM will be 12 GB, which would be in line with EEC registrations.

Memory bandwidth will of course depend on the frequency of the memory chips chosen by AMD. It’s not impossible that the brand will opt for 18 Gbps VRAM, in line with the current 7600 and 7700 XT. If this is the case, we’d have a memory bandwidth of 432 GB/s, in line with the 7700 XT, which shares the same VRAM characteristics.

Now, it’s not out of the question that AMD will unveil its card at CES 2024, and that it will go on sale in January. As for the price, once again, rumors suggest a bill of $329. Of course, all this is to be taken with a pinch of salt, as it’s all just gossip.
