If you recall, Corsair offered an adapter for the 12V-2×6 connector. This adapter featured a 180° angle to keep the connector away from the case’s side panel since, as you know, it’s best to avoid bending this power cable too much. Well, despite being marketed for its durability and heat resistance, it ended up melting as well. Ultimately, the more time passes, the more we realize that no solution is truly effective at preventing the NVIDIA connector from melting.

To put it simply, a Redditor plugged in his RTX 4090 Founders Edition using a Corsair 180° adapter. However, after a while, thePC startedfreezing or even rebooting as soon as a game was launched. Naturally, this abnormal behavior led the owner to inspect his setup. He unplugged the cable and noticed that the power connector had melted. In fact, the first row of pins was particularly affected, and almost everything had melted. As for the Corsair adapter, same story—it’s also out of commission.
Another Cablemod incident?
Naturally, it’s hard not to draw a parallel between this model and the Cablemod one. In fact, for the record, due to too many issues involving one of their adapters, the brand simply ended up pulling it from the market, despite a redesign intended to improve the unit’s rigidity.
Clearly, with this power connector, adding an adapter in the middle introduces an additional potential point of failure. However, upon closer inspection, the Corsair model was supposed to handle currents of 55A and withstand temperatures of 105°C… But that wasn’t enough. Otherwise, the other solution is to opt for a Thermal Grizzly WireView, which doesn’t seem to have melted… Plus, it comes with an extremely generous warranty!
In any case, it looks like NVIDIA is accepting the damaged card for RMA… At least he won’t end up having to pay for another overpriced GPU!
