As rumours and leaks go, things change dramatically in the world of hardware. This time, we can thank the professional branch of GrosBill for leaking the names of AMD’s next graphics cards. In fact, the site’s search criteria already reveal the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. In short, a brand new naming scheme!

RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, what if AMD changed its naming scheme?

In itself, this is nothing to jump up and down about, far from it, as it does not change the supposed characteristics of the card. Indeed, in the case of these 9070 XT and 9070, we’re still expecting cards running a Navi 48 GPU, all with RDNA 4 architecture. These will replace the RX 7800 XT in terms of performance, with an improved ray tracing engine if the latest rumours are to be believed. However, we shouldn’t expect any real monsters of power, as seemed to be the case initially.

From here, we can also extrapolate the names of the next models to be added to the range. We can assume that the RX 7700 XT will be replaced by an RX 9060 (XT) and that the RX 7600s will be replaced by RX 9050s (XT). And, obviously, there won’t be any cards higher up the range, as AMD has officially given up this sector.

Finally, by adopting this nomenclature, the Reds would be copying NVIDIA’s way of naming their cards. The chameleon has also adopted the same approach, offering RTX 4090s, RTX 4080s and so on. Generally speaking, the company draws a great deal of inspiration from its competitors when naming its products: the Ryzen processor nomenclature alone is inspired by Intel’s 9/7/5 range, and the same goes for the company’s chipsets.
