Last year was clearly the year of OLED, as this display technology saw a staggering 92% growth. This growth was primarily driven by gamers, since a large portion of the displays shipped were models with high refresh rates exceeding 200 Hz. At least, that is the conclusion of TrendForce’s analysis.

OLED is set to dominate in 2025!

A 92% increase driven by gamers!

According to the report, the growth of this type of display is impressive, as a total of 2.735 million units were shipped last year, representing a 92% year-over-year increase. However, these figures are particularly boosted by gamers, since the majority of panels sold feature high refresh rates. And there’s no secret here: gamers really appreciate responsive screens for the smoothness they provide during gameplay. We’re talking about screens running at 240 Hz, or even 280 Hz, which are starting to become available at “affordable” prices.

ASUS holds the largest market share in the OLED display sector!

Specifically, ASUS is the manufacturer with the largest market share in this sector. Indeed, the Taiwanese brand, with a 21.6% share, ranks ahead of South Korea’s Samsung and its 19.3%. Next, MSI takes third place with 13.1%, followed by LG with 12.6%. Finally, we find Dell at just under 10%: 9.9%, and all other players grouped under the “others” category with 23.5%.

In any case, it is quite surprising to see that in this sector, Taiwanese players have managed to dethrone Korean brands, even though the latter manufacture the majority of the panels.

Prices driving the trend downward:

The key factor driving the widespread adoption of these screens remains the price, which has been trending downward over time. Naturally, affordable prices encourage the adoption of this type of monitor, which was initially unaffordable, often costing over €1,000. Currently, you can find a Gigabyte GO27Q24 for €399.99, a QD-OLED model with QHD resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. Alternatively, the Samsung Odyssey G5 S27FG500U is currently available for €430!

In short, with such progress, we can hope that this type of display will become more commonplace, especially since growth in this sector is estimated at 51% by 2026.
