We were desperately looking for AMD’s high-end AM5 Project Zero cards. At CES, the team there had already told us that the cards were on their way, but that we’d just have to wait and see. Well, here we are, with the magnificent MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI PZ. For those in doubt, the PZ (Project Zero) is the standard put forward by MSI to provide connectors at the rear of the motherboard and ensure a clean assembly by hiding as many cables as possible. Most case manufacturers have adopted the MSI and Asus (BTF) standards, offering chassis that are compatible with both solutions. Coming back to the MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI PZ, this was already announced in January 2025.

At MSI, Project Zero becomes “PZ” and the range expands
Returning to this Tomahawk card, it has all its internal power and I/O connections at the rear, with the sole exception of the PCIe lanes. This version has 5 Gbit/s Ethernet and Wi-Fi 7 for a fast network connection. It also has USB 4 40 Gbit/s for ultra-fast transfers. It also features four M.2 connectors, two of which support PCIe 5.0.
For the time being, we can’t be sure when it will be available, but we’re told it’s imminent. On the other hand, the price in US dollars stings, since it will be $369, which implies at least a bill approaching €450 in Europe. On this last point, we’ll be waiting for confirmation from our friends at MSI. Of course, you could always say that this is an investment that will last. Unlike Intel’s LGA 1851, AMD has announced that the AM5 socket will be supported until at least 2027. The next generation of Ryzen Zen 6 is thus confirmed to be in AM5.
