First leak of a GeekBench test result for a next-generation AMD processor. However, this result pertains to the Medusa Point family, a family of mobile processors, and the tested model appears to be the direct replacement for the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. In any case, the picture that seems to be emerging here is one of significant performance gains brought by the Zen 6 architecture.
Medusa Point: A Mobile Zen 6 CPU Tested on Geekbench!
Up to +21% insingle-threaded performance:
In terms of results, this new processor, identified as “AMD Plum-MDS1,” achieved impressive scores of 3,174 points in single-core testing and 15,092 points in multi-core testing. To be precise, Geekbench detects that this CPU utilizes a total of four Zen 6 cores and six Zen 6c cores, which are compact cores. In fact, this model shares a configuration equivalent to that of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, which scores 2,605 points in single-core and 13,397 points in multi-core. Based on these calculations, this new processor is 21.8% faster in single-core performance and 12.6% faster in multi-core performance.
There are still some uncertainties:
Nevertheless, doubts remain regarding the detection of features supported by this model and its cache memory. Admittedly, it is reported that this model features 32 MB of L3 cache as well as support for the AVX-512-fp16 instruction set. It’s worth noting, however, that the cache is larger than that of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, which had only 24 MB of L3 cache.
Furthermore, let’s keep in mind that this is only an“engineering sample” processor. As development progresses, performance may increase—it remains to be seen how. Furthermore, although this pertains only to the mobile segment, these scores are encouraging for the desktop segment as well. It remains to be seen whether AMD will be able to deliver similarly significant gains on itsAM5 socket.
