Last October, we heard about a new GRE card for the Chinese market: the RX 7650 GRE. However, although the initial acronym stood for ‘Golden Rabbit Edition’, the card had to be renamed. Yes, the Year of the Rabbit is over, and now it’s the Year of the Snake, so we had to find another meaning. From now on, the GRE suffix will stand for ‘Great RADEON Edition’.
AMD is offering an RX 7650 GRE (Great RADEON Edition):
As a reminder, with this card AMD offered us a product that was, in the end, fairly basic, as it was vulgarly a factory overclocked RX 7600. In fact, AMD took the characteristics of the 7600 and pushed the frequencies a little. This ‘new’ card benefited from a base frequency of 2350 MHz instead of 2250 MHz. The boost, meanwhile, was pushed up to 2695 MHz from 2655 MHz. However, these frequencies are still lower than those of the RX 7600 XT, which is 2470/2760 MHz and also benefits from 16 GB of VRAM.
In short, with this card, we shouldn’t expect any major changes in performance, while the TDP has risen. This value rose from 165W for the non-XT to 170W for the GRE.
In terms of price, expect to pay 2049 yuan, or around $287 after conversion. It remains to be seen whether the card will be launched more widely than was the case with the RX 7900 GRE. Remember that a few months after its introduction, the 7900 GRE was available for retail sale. In any case, AMD is registering several customised versions. These include cards from Yeston, PowerColor, Sapphire, ASUS and others. As for the launch, this model saw the light of day on February 7 in China.
