Is the RX 7900 GRE at the end of its life?

The RX 7900 GRE is a card that has had an interesting career to say the least. Originally, this Golden Rabbit Edition model was a reference for the Chinese market only. At the same time, remember, we were waiting for AMD’s lower RX 7000 ranges. In short, for a number of reasons, the Reds finally agreed to launch the card more globally. However, all good things must come to an end, and this model is now said to be at the end of its life.

The RX 7900 GRE at the end of its life?

AMD RX 7900 GRE

That’s what we’re told by the news provider, which, based on feedback from AMD’s partners, says that deliveries are now limited. Clearly, we know what this means: AMD is emptying stocks in preparation for the launch of the RX 8000. The company is holding on to its other ranges and is certainly getting rid of the models that sell the least.

As a reminder, with this card AMD was offering a reference equipped with a Navi 31 GPU featuring 80 compute units , four less than the RX 7900 XT. However, with its 256-bit bus and 16 GB of 18 Gbps VRAM, the memory part was greatly sacrificed, with the card boasting a memory bandwidth of 576 GB/s. As a reminder, the 7900 XT runs at 800 GB/s with its 20 GB of GDDR6 at 20 Gbps in 320 bits. The card does less well than a 7800 XT. By the way, overclocking the memory is a good way to boost performance!

More concretely, this model sits between the RX 7800 XT and RX 7900 XT in terms of performance. The same goes for price, with models selling for around €600. If you look hard enough, you’ll find a 7800 XT for less than €500, compared with €750 for a 7900 XT.

We don’t yet know how this will affect the availability of this model. For the time being, they are fairly easy to find in France.
