Intel Meteor Lake processors to go into production

0

There are many contradictions regarding the timing and positioning of Intel’s next 14th generation processors. For the record, this generation should allow Intel to make a new leap forward with a profoundly renewed architecture. The 14th generation Intel Meteor Lake processors will be the first to take advantage of the Intel 4 process. Intel will roll out production in Ireland, in the heart of Fab 34. Pat Gelsinger, recently visited Fab 34. In order to provide the means for this ramp-up, the factory’s surface area has doubled and production capacity has been considerably improved over the past two months. This is where the Intel 4 and Intel 3 processes will be put into action with the aim of tackling TSMC’s N4 and N3 processes from 2023 to 2024.

Meteor Lake goes into production…but no CPU until late 2023?

Following Intel’s new approach to CPUs, the 14th generation Meteor Lake-P processors are expected to be launched in late 2023 in limited volumes. The main chip (CPU) will therefore be manufactured with Intel 4, while the iGPU and IO chip will take advantage of the TSMC 5nm and 6nm node. As for the Intel 3 process, it should, at least initially, be exclusively dedicated to the new generation of Xeons for 2024, Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest.

Coming back to Meteor Lake, it should arrive first in mobile version (for laptops). If this timetable is confirmed, it would mean that Intel intends to be satisfied with Raptor Lake on the desktop by 2024. Perhaps with a little refresh…?
