Since the export ban on the RTX 4090, 3090 and other high-performance products, the Chinese have been turning everything into AI cards. This time, it’s the RTX 3080’s turn to suffer the same fate as the two aforementioned models.
Naturally, the cards are fitted with a blower heatsink. The latter features a radial fan to extract hot air from the casing… The rest is history.
However, there’s one small improvement to these models. In fact, the amount of memory is doubled, with cards increasing from 10 GB to 20 GB. Once again, the amount of VRAM is important in the case of artificial intelligence, especially for everything to do with LLMs.
In any case, the modification is a success, if the various GPU-Z captures shared are anything to go by. Doubling the amount of memory on a card isn’t all that complicated: just solder 2 GB memory chips together and modify the bios afterwards. As we’ve seen, this practice has been successfully carried out on the RTX 3070 in particular.
