RTX 3090s also for AI

Following the banning of the RTX 4090 on their soil, the Chinese have started to dismantle and reassemble these cards. However, the boards are stripped of their GPUs and memory, and re-soldered onto PCBs that allow a blower heatsink to be fitted. This is also happening with the RTX 3090 / Ti.

Once again, there’s no match in performance between an RTX 4090 and a 3090. However, the card does have a significant advantage for LLMs (Large Language Model): 24 GB of memory.

Once again, boards already fitted with blower heatsinks are reused as is. Otherwise, customized versions from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, etc. are reassembled. The aim is to fit them with a turbine-type heatsink, which is indispensable. On the one hand, it is compact enough to accommodate a large number of boards in a server.

It’s also essential for its cooling capacity when several boards are installed simultaneously in a configuration. As you know, this type of cooling extracts the hot air from the case, thus limiting the accumulation of hot air in the server/enclosure… Even if on a per-unit basis, a heatsink based on axial fans will be infinitely more efficient.
