AMD seems to have confirmed the detailed specifications of its future RX 9070 series. While the two cards share a fairly similar datasheet due to the use of the same GPU chip, there are a few differences that allow for proper segmentation. Let’s take a look.
RX 9070 series: same GPU, different datasheet!
Both cards use the same GPU, a Navi 48. This occupies a surface area of 357 mm² and houses a total of 53.9 billion transistors. For production, AMD has turned to TSMC and its 4nm N5 process.
As for the GPU configuration, we learn that the RX 9070 XT will have the most complete chip. It will feature 64 compute units, 4096 stream processors, 64 ray accelerators and 128 AI accelerators. In terms of frequencies, we’re talking about a boost to 2970 MHz, while the TBP will reach 304W.
The non-XT version of the card will inevitably be a little more neutered. The number of compute units drops to 56, or 3584 stream processors. The board will also lose some ray accelerators and AI accelerators, dropping to 56 and 112 respectively. Finally, frequencies will also be lowered, with the boost dropping to 2520 MHz, also lowering power supply requirements: 650W recommended vs. 750W for the XT. Here, the TBP drops to 220W.
However, despite these configuration differences, the memory portion remains identical in both cases. We’re talking here about a total of 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM coupled to a 256-bit bus. Thanks to 20 Gbps of VRAM, bandwidth reaches 640 GB/s. This memory is backed up by 64 MB of third-generationInfinity Cache.
Video output is via HDMI 2.1b coupled with DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR13.5. Power supply will be via 8-pin PCIe connectors, although some models will be 12V-2×6, thanks to Sapphire and ASRock. Finally, a PCIe 5.0 x16 interface is available.
Price ?
Unfortunately, prices have not yet been confirmed, but we expect MSRP to be under $700 officially. To find out, we’ll have to wait for the launch conference scheduled for February 28. As for availability, it should be effective from March 6. Oh, and there will be no reference design for this generation.
