As the launch date of the RX 9070 XT approaches, tongues are wagging and leaks are multiplying. On the one hand, we learn that the Reds held a brief conference during which they announced the power consumption of their future cards. On the other, we have benchmark results here and there giving some indication of the cards’ performance. According to the tests, we can expect a rivalry with the RX 7900 XTX.
RX 9070 XT: 304W power consumption?
According to leaker Hoang Anh Phu, AMD held a brief conference on its future cards. During the conference, the brand announced the power consumption of its cards, with TBPs of 304W for the XT and 220W for the non-XT. As a reminder, at AMD, the TBP covers the card’s total power consumption, i.e. the GPU, memory and other components. It is similar to NVIDIA’s TGP.
As a reminder, with the XT, we’re expecting a card with a Navi 48 GPU containing 4096 stream processors, compared with 3584 for the non-XT. Both would benefit from a similar memory section with a 256-bit bus and 16 GB of VRAM. Memory bandwidth is said to reach 640 GB/s. As for frequencies, the XT would be close to 3 GHz with a boost of 2970 MHz, while the non-XT would be limited to run at 2520 MHz.
Performance on a par with the RX 7900 XTX?
There are several interesting things to say about the benchmark. A quick rummage around reveals an initial Geekbench score that puts the 9070 XT on a par with the RX 7900 GRE in both OpenCL and Vulkan tests. However, on Furmark (via @gawroskiT), the situation is quite different. On the famous warm-up software, the card, which was running with modded drivers, posted a score of 7,931 pts, which puts it very close to the previous-generation RX 7900 XTX. This result puts the card 50% above the RX 7800 XT.
Of course, it should be remembered that these are theoretical benchmark performances. Once again, these scores should not be taken at face value, as they do not necessarily reveal the card’s actual performance in game. Patience is therefore advised.
