As we have seen, AMD’s objective with this RX 9000 is to win back market share. To do this, the company is concentrating on the most buoyant sectors, targeting the mid/top of the range and leaving behind the premium sector occupied by NVIDIA with its RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. What’s more, to drive the nail in, the Reds are planning aggressive pricing for their RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 non-XT. As a result, the biggest card in the series could well be 20% more affordable than the RTX 5070 Ti, with superior rasterisation performance!
RX 9070 XT: towards a $599 price tag?
For the moment, these are just rumours, so all this should be taken with a pinch of salt, of course. However, according to Moore’s Law is Dead, the Reds could well be charging $599 and $499 for its RX 9070 XT and non-XT. Compared with NVIDIA’s offer, the XT would be around 20% cheaper, while the difference between the non-XT and the RTX 5070 would be much smaller: not even 10%.
Of course, what will make the difference for gamers is the performance of the cards. AMD already seems to be on the right footing, since the 9070 XT is already said to outperform the RTX 5070 Ti in terms of rasterisation by 15%. The same applies to the non-XT version of the card, with a 12% advantage over NVIDIA’s non-Ti 5070 according to the latest rumours.
The point that would give AMD the edge is stocks. As we’ve seen, merchants have already started to stock up, as was the case with Israeli shops in particular. If all goes well, the Reds, unlike the Chameleon, will be able to satisfy demand and the cards should not see their prices explode because of a shortage of supply, as is the case with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090.
