We’ve already told you about it in this news, but we’ve had the opportunity to receive new photos of the card thanks to bl4ckdot, who’s at Computex. We’d like to thank him for these and other photos, which we’ll be using in other news briefs. But let’s get back to this new AORUS Tachyon ICE, one of the reference series for CPU overclocking, but also and above all for memory.
This new motherboard is based on Intel’s next chipset, the Z890, and will adopt a new socket, the LGA-1851 for Arrow Lake-S processors. As you may have guessed, the name “ICE” refers to the color of its PCB (10 layer), which becomes white, but remains in E-ATX format. The power supply stage has been enlarged compared to the previous generation, since it is now a 19 1 2-phase design.
One of the first striking features is the presence of two 90° memory slots, reminiscent of EVGA’s DARK KingPiN series cards. The LGA-1851 socket follows suit, also at 90°. The presence of only two memory slots is justified by the greater overclocking potential of DDR5, as this model is designed to break records.
In terms of other changes, this AORUS Tachyon ICE features 5 M2 slots, one of which is wired in 5.0 4x, and the appearance of a USB type-C port directly on the PCB. As for the rest, there are still 2 BIOS. No doubt the board’s design has once again been entrusted to Hi Cookie, the famous overclocker who also manages BIOS debugging. Note also that the two 8-pin power connectors are concealed under a retractable cover and that the 24-pin flat power connector is located very low down on the right-hand side of the PCB.
Last but not least, as on previous generations, we also find the PCB inserts which can prove to be interesting tools for overclockers. There are plenty of them on this model, which has become an AORUS habit on this Z890 Tachyon version. This confirms its position as a board dedicated to overclocking.
No price or availability date yet. All this information should be available at the time of Intel’s official announcements concerning the chipset and the future range of Arrow Lake-S processors.
