Despite all Microsoft’s efforts around Windows 11, Windows 10 is still the dominant operating system on our PCs. In fact, the old system alone accounts for 61% of market share. However, W11 has not said its last word, as it is gradually making progress.
Windows 11, only 35.58% market share!
Although W10 remains the most popular system at the moment, W11 is gradually making headway. As we can see, the trend is downwards for the old version of Microsoft’s system, while it is upwards for the new one. In fact, in October 2024, W11 was up by almost 3%.
Naturally, Microsoft is “forcing” its users to migrate to its new OS. On the one hand, this is being done by ending support for W10 in 2025 (although extended support is available for a fee of $30/year), but also by adding new features to the new system. We’re talking in particular about security features, which tend to appeal to businesses.
Changing operating systems is no easy matter either. Some users fear instability problems or even incompatibility with their hardware. Remember that W11 has specific prerequisites in this respect. On the other hand, this old hardware will eventually be replaced, so it’s hard to see what could slow down the adoption of this new Windows… The release of Windows 12, perhaps.
