Yesterday, while writing this article, we made a simple observation: what primarily determines the price of a graphics card is no longer its GPU, its size, or its performance (well, not entirely anymore), but the amount of memory installed on the PCB. Sure enough, believe it or not 🤨, RTX 5060 Ti cards are now selling for more than RTX 5070 cards. Yet there’s a significant performance difference between the two cards. The same goes for the MSRP, which ranges from $429 for the 16 GB version to $549 for the RTX 5070.

Up to €920 for a single RTX 5060 Ti!
Currently, the market is in a state of chaos due to AI, which devours every bit of available memory as it’s produced. Inevitably, the graphics card market is suffering as well, and it appears that the amount of memory is becoming the predominant pricing factor for consumer-grade GPUs. Looking specifically at the market, Top Achat obviously lists both chips, but the prices for the two models are converging rather than showing a clear differentiation between them. For example, the market lists 5060 Ti models selling for up to €920 for MSI’s Gaming Trio OC model, while the most expensive RTX 5070 is priced at €980 for ASUS’s Prime White model. Other models remain expensive, with a TUF Gaming version also priced at €960.
As we mentioned here, NVIDIA raised the selling price of its GPU/memory kits sold to its partners, mainly due to VRAM prices. So, the more memory you put on a graphics card, the more it costs; which is why we’re seeing 5060 Ti cards priced like RTX 5070s. And that’s also why some RTX 3060s are selling for more than an RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB.
