TSMC 2nm production sites in the US after 2025

At present, TSMC remains one of the pioneers in semiconductor manufacturing. Via Wccftech, we learn that the company is considering transferring its 2nm production to the United States after 2025. We can imagine that the company wants to maintain an advantage over Taiwan before exporting new production sites.

2nm from TSMC in the US in 2026?

TSMC

Broadly speaking, with its Chips & Science Act, the United States is attracting many semiconductor companies to its territory. Intel is one of them, but so is TSMC, one of the world’s biggest chipmakers… If not the first. Three factories are due to open in Arizona following $6.6 billion in funding from the US government.

The question of 2nm has recently arisen, and the company may well transfer this to America if discussions are successful. However, Taiwan’s Minister of Science and Technology, Wu Cheng-wen, has indicated that this transfer will only take place after 2025, once the company has started work on the process that will succeed 2nm. Clearly, 2nm will be in full operation on the island by then.

However, the fact that factories are being set up in friendly foreign territories (United States, Japan) raised questions from journalists, some of whom felt that the company was in decline. However, the Minister was reassuring, indicating that the research centres would remain in Taiwan. Semiconductor production remains a key activity for the island.
