990 Pro 4Tb: Samsung’s SSD hits the market!

Samsung 990 Pro 4 To

As we said here, this model is a 4TB version of the original SSD. It still features an M.2 2280 format, and will be available with or without heatsink. This model still benefits from a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. However, compared with the 2TB model, there are a few minor changes. The controller, while still of Samsung origin, has been upgraded to V8, while the 236-layer TLC memory has been replaced by 176-layer TLC in the 2TB model.

As far as performance is concerned, this model is as fast as ever. It offers sequential data rates of 7.45 GB/s for reading versus 6.9 GB/s for writing. The same goes for random performance, with 1.4M IOPS for reading and 1.550M IOPS for writing. As for endurance, this has been increased to 2400 TBW, offering a long service life.

As far as prices are concerned, this 4TB model is obviously the most expensive in the series. Specifically, you’ll have to reckon with a minimum price of €300 at Boulanger, €355 at Amazon (marketplace) and €325 with heatsink, again at Amazon.
