We told you about this famous RX 7900M at the beginning of October. It’s a card that’s set to see the light of day on the notebook side, while also boasting a big GPU. In fact, the card is based on a Navi 31 GPU and features 72 Compute Unites, giving us a total of 4608 stream processors. In short, a configuration 20% higher than that of the desktop RX 7800 XT.

A first Time Spy benchmark has been released, and the card holds its own against NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 mobile.

For the record, the Time Spy test was carried out with an Alienware M18 laptop. The machine is based on an RX 7900M and Ryzen 9 7945HX configuration. On the test bench, the overall configuration achieved a score of 18,404 pts, compared with 19,743 pts for the graphics score. This score is set against another Alienware machine sharing a similar configuration, but with a mobile RTX 4080. The NVIDIA GPU-based configuration scores 18,923 pts in graphics. This puts AMD’s card some 4.3% ahead of the green card!

The other factor to consider is power consumption and heating. In a notebook , these are two important factors, as they are decisive for battery life in particular. And AMD’s benchmarks are clearly encouraging in this area.

Finally, there’s one last factor to consider: price. If our colleague is to be believed, the machine equipped with the RX 7900M has a lower selling price than the one equipped with the RTX 4080. Apparently, the price difference is around 20%: $2799.99 vs $3349.99!

As you know, all we have to do to get an idea of the hardware’s capabilities is wait for independent tests. In the meantime, the card looks promising and seems to rival NVIDIA’s 4080 mobile. However, the RTX 4090 mobile is still untouchable.
