Developments in the hard disk drive sector continue. Seagate, a major player in the sector, has announced its ability to offer hard drives of 30TB and more this year. Indeed, via its new Mozaic 3 platform, the brand reports that it has succeeded in increasing the density of its platters!

Seagate: 30TB hard drives in the first quarter of 2024!

Seagate Mozaic 3 In simple terms, this new platform takes advantage of HAMR(Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording) technology. The rest is a little more technical, as the brand is basing itself on a platinum alloy platter with a lattice structure. As for writing, this is entrusted to a plasmonic engraver, while reading is left to a 7th-generation spintronic magnetic field sensor. Finally, the whole system is driven by a 12 nm etched controller.

In short, Seagate has succeeded in increasing the density of its 3TB platters. When assembled in a hard disk, this gives a total capacity of 30TB. Subsequently, the company indicates that its new platform will be able to offer 4TB and 5TB platters in the years to come. In any case, this increase in density will enable a serious increase in data center capacities.

As for the availability of the 30TB, Seagate has announced that it will arrive in the first quarter of 2024.
