From AMD, via El Chapuzas Informatico, we find some official information about the Ryzen 9000. Unfortunately, according to them, the news isn’t very good, since the new generation is said to be disappointing in gaming. So much so, in fact, that the company decided to compare its Ryzen 7 9700X with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a model dating back to 2022. On the other hand, AMD had warned that the 7800X3D would remain the king of gaming for some time to come.
Ryzen 9000: not great for gaming?
In slides leaked by the Spanish media, we learn that, on average, the Ryzen 7 9700X will be around 12% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. In absolute terms, this is a disappointing performance, given that this model is now over two years old.
In truth, with this new generation, AMD seems to be focusing more on energy efficiency than anything else. That’s why the CPU ‘s TDP has dropped from one generation to the next, from 105W for the 7700X to 65W for this 9700X.
This approach contrasts sharply with that of competitor Intel, which seems to focus above all on performance, regardless of consumption or heat. That’s why we end up with Core i9 14900K CPUs consuming almost 300W @stock.
However, without saying that this is a bad move on AMD’s part, we feel that the brand could have been more aggressive so as not to “compete with itself”. As it is, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D offers a much better performance/price ratio in gaming. Admittedly, there are rumors that the 9700X may be 2% faster than the 7800X3D, but the price will be higher at launch. So 2% more performance for €40 more? The 7800X3D is likely to have a long career ahead of it… At least, until the launch of the 9000X3D.
However, in the face of Intel’s offer, AMD is confident with a 9900X claimed to be 2 to 41% faster in applications than the 14900K. In gaming, it would be 4 to 22% faster. The rest of the range shows :
