Der8auer is back on the overclocking scene with a delid on a Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Naturally, the temperature gain is massive, while other positive effects are quickly felt. Of course, removing the IHS is a dangerous process that can lead to CPU destruction even with the right tools. It’s not something to be taken lightly.

Ryzen 9 9950X3D delid: -23°C on temperatures!

Armed with its trusty delid tool, Der8auer removed the metal capsule from its processor, and all went well – no breakage. Once the processor was clean, it was mounted under a direct die waterblock designed by Thermal Grizzly. The results are in: the processor is much cooler, losing 23°C all the same!

Naturally, lower temperatures also mean higher frequencies. In fact, the cooler your CPU, the higher the frequencies. In this case, the overclocker saw an increase of 50 to 75 MHz, free of charge.

Of course, there are many reasons why you might want to delid your processor. Among them is the quest for performance, which is the case here. However, other users do it for comfort. Yes, the cooler your CPU is, the less your heatsink is used and the quieter it is. But once again, it’s a risky operation that requires patience!
