Ryzen 9 7945HX3D: 3D V-Cache for laptops!

0

AMD’s 3D V-Cache memory made its appearance in red processors in April 2022. If you remember, it was the Ryzen 7 5800X3D that initiated the movement, establishing itself as the best gaming CPU of the moment. Then came the 7900X3D, 7950X3D and 7800X3D. Well, the good news is that this technology is now also available in laptop CPUs, notably with the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D!

AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D

With this processor, AMD isn’t just stringing pearls – no, it’s not. In fact, the company is offering us a mobile flagship equipped with 16 cores and 32 threads. The latter uses a multi-chip MCM-type design. There are two eight-core CCDs and a large I/O die, much like on current Ryzen 7000s.

The datasheet then reveals base frequencies of 2.3 GHz, with a boost to 5.4 GHz. TDP is configurable from 55W to 75W, and Tjmax is 89°C. However, what really makes a difference here is the amount of L3 cache memory, which increases from 64 MB to 128 MB! This is where 3D V-Cache really comes into its own.

AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D perfs

In terms of claimed performance, this is obviously an improvement on the original 7945HX. AMD claims average gains of 15n, with peaks of over 50n in certain games. In short, this is a CPU capable of competing with the Core i9 13980HX, Intel’s spearhead in the notebook world.

Incidentally, Asus has already included this processor in its Rog Scar 17 PC, which will be available from August 22. In short, plenty of fun to be had on a laptop.
