Now that the RX 9070 series was officially announced on February 28, we can focus on what’s next: the RX 9060. This time, rumours point to cards offering superior performance to the RTX 4060, with an XT model rivaling the RTX 4070.
RX 9060 XT: performance equivalent to the RTX 4070?
TechpowerUp has come up with a few minor contradictions with the previous article on the RX 9060. While ITHome indicated that the RX 9060 series would come in 8GB, our American colleagues indicate that the cards will have more VRAM. According to them, the RX 9060 will have 12 GB of memory, compared with 16 GB for the RX 9060 XT. This would seem to be more consistent with AMD’s generosity when it comes to VRAM. But with caution, we have to take this with a pinch of salt
Be that as it may, Moore’s Law is Dead gives us a few hints as to the cards’ performance. He tells us that the XT will outperform the RTX 4060 Ti and the RX 7700 XT. This card could even move into RTX 4070 territory. This would be thanks to RDNA 4’s architectural improvements, but also via improved frequencies, according to the leaker.
Otherwise, as far as the price of the XT is concerned, TPU’s announcement is consistent with our previous article. The latter mentioned a price of between $400 and $500, but we learned that the Reds could well be charging $449 for the card. For the time being, it’s hard to say whether this is a good price or not, since NVIDIA is keeping the price of the RTX 5060 under wraps. So it’s hard to get a precise idea.
Whatever the case, graphics cards are becoming more and more expensive… We remember the days when we could afford a GTX 560 Ti for €250 and when AMD offered us real bangers at derisory prices (hello HD 4870). It’s also worth pointing out that production costs have skyrocketed in recent times… And not only that.
