New dark clouds are appearing in the Chinese sky. Indeed, the United States wants to tighten its export policies. Due to come into force on April 4, these new tightenings even threaten the RTX 4090D, specially designed to comply with the previous sanctions!

RTX 4090D threatened in China by new tougher sanctions!

The new sanctions apply to components (or machines) whose computing power exceeds 70 TFLOPS. Clearly, this threatens the 4090D with its 73.5 TFLOP of power, or the NVIDIA H20 with its 74 TFLOP.

On the other hand, there are some relaxations, notably in the policy of presumption of deniability towards China or Macau, for example. Moreover, exports of AI chips will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

It goes without saying that Sino-American relations will not improve. The Chinese government has already voiced its displeasure at the announcement. A representative of the Ministry of Commerce has indicated that this decision will generate new pressure on business-to-business compliance policies on the one hand. On the other hand, it is likely to have a negative impact on the semiconductor market. Finally, Beijing points out that this decision runs counter to the rights of both Chinese and American companies.

What’s more, it’s not impossible that the price of RTX 4090Ds could skyrocket in the near future, especially if their supply from China is threatened. We all remember the price trend of the original RTX 4090 following its ban.
