Last January, we reported that NVIDIA might well relaunch its RTX 3060. This rumor seems to be gaining traction at the moment thanks to a post on the Board Channels forum, which is a reliable source of information. According to NVIDIA’s partners, the chip could reach them shortly before mid-March!

RTX 3060: is the card making a comeback?

If we are to believe what is being said here, the brand’s partners could receive the chips between March 10 and 20. Marketing could take place shortly thereafter. However, what the rumor does not indicate is which version is being referred to here. As a reminder, the 3060 was available in two versions, the first with a 192-bit memory bus and a total of 12 GB ofGDDR6, while the 8 GB version was offered with a more limited memory bus: 128 bits. This inevitably has an impact on memory bandwidth, which increases from 240 GB/s in the 8 GB version to 360 GB/s in the 12 GB version.

Now, we wonder why the green team is bringing this model back to life. Clearly, memory availability is at the heart of the matter. But if the green team is bringing this card back to life, it’s not for nothing. Either there is better availability ofGDDR6 thanGDDR7, or NVIDIA has a financial interest in restarting production of this type ofGPU, which should allow for higher margins or offer a cheap alternative given recent price increases.

In any case, this news should be taken with a grain of salt, since until the cards reappear on sale (although there are still a few in stock here and there), it remains in the realm of rumor. It should also be noted that there is no indication as to whether availability will be global or regional, as in China, for example, where prices are rising on the ASUS side!
