After NVIDIA’s GeForce 565.90 WHQL driver, it’s time for AMD’s new RADEON Software 24.9.1. This new driver features a massive amount of new features.

What’s new in RADEON Software 24.9.1?

Intel 101.5989

With this new version, AMD introduces support for new video games. The list includes Frostpunk 2, God of War Ragnarök, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and The Sims 4 DirectX 11 update.

With this, the company is introducing a new feature: AMD Fluid Motion Frame (AFMF) 2, which will reduce overall system latency while improving performance. The company also states that this feature supports new APIs such as Vulkan, OpenGLNew, DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. This is a feature that will be greatly appreciated in fast games, as it offers a significant reduction in frame generation. In short, it can be coupled with RADEON Chill and offers support for Ryzen AI 300 and RDNA 3.

As for Geometric Downscaling for video, we get an improvement in image quality with fewer artefacts when playing downscaled video. The feature gains support for the RADEON 800M in addition to the RX 7000 desktop and mobile.

As for Anti-Lag 2, we have Vulkan support for Counter-Strike 2.

As for RADEON Boost, we’ve learned that this feature gains support for FINAL FANTASY XVI and extended support for HYPR-Tune.

FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 can be configured automatically on Black Myth: Wukong, Creatures of Ava, Frostpunk 2 and God of War Ragnarök.

Meanwhile, it will be possible to automatically configure Anti-Lag 2 on Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

New Vulkan extensions are now supported with VK_AMD_anti_lag, VK_KHR_maintenance7, VK_KHR_pipeline_binary and VK_EXT_shader_object.

To round off this round-up of new features, we have Microsoft DirectX 12 Work Graphs support with Mesh Nodes for the RX 7000 series of cards.

  • There will no longer be any dark shadows or desaturated colours in Wukong games if you set the global illumination to medium or higher.
  • No more visual corruptions seen on Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT with HDR active while using Record & Streaming.
  • AFMF will no longer be inactive with certain on-screen overlays.
  • The AMD panel will no longer launch when the system wakes from standby.
  • Audio and video will no longer be desynchronised when recording with the AV1 codec from the AMD driver.

Known issues:

We end this short tour with the problems identified by AMD:

  • Intermittent performance when entering some of Dayz.
  • Pilot timeouts or crashes can be encountered on Space Marine 2 with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 iGPU. If you have this problem, you can work around it by enabling Variable Gaphics Memory in the driver: Performance -> Settings -> Variable Graphics Memory.
