RADEON Software 24.1.1: lots of new features from AMD!

0

AMD publishes its RADEON Software 24.1.1 driver, the first for this year 2024, which brings a number of new features. Of course, we find support for the little RX 7600 XT, but also the addition of support for new games and the arrival of AMD Fluid motion Frames.

RADEON Software 24.1.1: what’s new?

AMD RADEON Software 24.1.1

Of course, the main new feature is the addition of support for AMD’s new RX 7600 XT card. This card, announced during CES, has now been launched, and this new version of AMD’s driver simply adds support for it.

Then there’s support for new games such as Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Tekken 8.

Finally, we find the addition of AMD Fluid motion Frames for the RADEON 700M, RX 6000 and RX 7000. This technology simply boosts performance by 97% at 1080p with FidelityFX and FSR2 turned off. In 1440p, the performance gain reaches 103% under the same conditions. In simple terms, this is a frame-generation technology that automatically cuts out when movements are rapid, in order to preserve image quality.

As for video upscaling, AMD has improved its algorithm to enhance video quality on the RX 7000. The feature can be activated via the Graphics tab to enhance visual rendering for DirectX 11 applications such as Chrome, Edge or video players with resolutions supported up to 4K.

There are also a number of improvements in Content Adaptive Machine Learning (CAML), notably in text detection, which now supports 4K gaming. Otherwise, the AVC, HEVC and AV1 encoding codecs have undergone some quality-enhancing optimizations. And of course, AMD continues to work with its partners to implement video enhancements in third-party applications.

Otherwise, a few small changes related to the Smart Technology tab or AMD Assistant have been made.

Patches and issues identified :

In terms of fixes, this version 24.1.1 corrects the following problems:

  • Correction of performance drops observed in some DirectML workloads.
  • Some gray screen problems may occur after upgrading your display (Nixeus NX-EDG274K) with the RX 7000.
  • Graphics API metrics may display N/A with some universal applications (UWP).
  • Heavy stuttering can occur in Warframe when loading a new zone or launching a new mission.
  • Black artifacts can be seen in in-game smoke effects on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
  • Black texture flicker can be observed when playing Starfield with certain cards such as the RX 5600 XT.
  • Intermittent installation failures can be observed after using the “reset to factory settings” function.

Finally, we’d like to close with a few known problems:

  • Longer loading times can be observed on Deathloop with cards such as RX 6900 (fix in sight for 24.2.1).
  • Dead Space may crash after applying RTAO with cards like the RX 6800.
  • Excessive stuttering can be observed during the first match in Overwatch 2 (fix in sight for 24.2.1).
  • Still some audio/video desync problems when recording via the driver with the AV1 codec (fix in sight for Q2).
  • A green tint can be displayed with the Oculus Rift S with the RX 7000.
  • With a reboot, the Parsec host application may crash with certain cards, such as the RX 7900 XTX (fix in sight for 24.2.1).
  • On Teams, the camera may display images in a loop with certain products such as the Ryzen 7 7840U.
