Radeon RX 7900: the prospect of a “good” price is getting further away

0

As you obviously know, AMD’s Radeon RX 7900s should arrive this December 13. The “reference” RX 7900 XT has been announced with an official price of $899, while the XTX will cost $999. Both prices are in contrast to the RTX 4090 and 4080 launched earlier this year. However, while AMD’s price announcements have triggered a very positive reception from the hardware community, the reality could be profoundly different unfortunately. Two big clouds are disrupting the positive vibes that were floating around this release so far. First of all, the availability of the so-called reference cards (which will have to be exchanged at $899 and $999 respectively) will be visibly reduced.

RX 7900: real availability and real price

Some rumors even indicate that AMD would stop its own versions to make room for the AIB reference models. Finally, because the prices of the partners’ models are starting to leak in China in particular, and the bill is salty. The first leaks indicate that the cards could be exchanged with a price 20 to 30% higher than the launch price communicated by AMD. Other reports mention an RX 7900 XT at 8,688 yuan, while the 7900 XTX could be between 9,788 and 11,399 yuan. That is almost 60% more than its official price. Of course, these informations are only rumors among others, but for the moment several sources indicate a very reduced availability at least for the first 2-3 weeks. The custom versions could arrive only at the very beginning of 2023 with obviously a higher price.

In short, the match will not only come down to performance between AMD and Nvidia, but also to the actual availability and public prices that distributors will offer around the globe.
