In a few days’ time, NVIDIA will be unveiling its new graphics cards, in this case the RTX 5060 Ti in 16 and 8 GB versions. However, it would appear that the new 12V-2×6 connector is not compulsory, far from it. Via VideoCardz, we learn that Zotac’s range of cards does without this connector altogether. Well, on the leaked models anyway.
RTX 5060 Ti: no 12V-2×6 at Zotac!
Clearly, the 12V-2×6 connector is likely to be shunned by a number of manufacturers, including Zotac. Indeed, the first leaks indicate that the 12V-2×6 will not be present on the leaked cards and there is already talk of six cards, three in 16 GB and three others in 8 GB. We’re talking about models from the AMP and TwinEdge series.
On the other hand, when you look at the characteristics of the cards and the connector, you’d think that opting for this 12V-2×6 would be pointless. Remember that the 16-pin connector is capable of transmitting up to 600W of power. But an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is, at best, something like 180W… That’s a long way off. In itself, this is a good thing, as it means you don’t have to use an adapter or change your power supply if you want a clean installation. And if you already have a good power supply, all the better!
Secondly, Computer Base’s article states that ASUS will not be using a 12V-2×6 connector, at least on certain models. This was revealed in a video by Tony Yu on Bilibili. In the video, we see a three-fan card bearing the image of Hatsune Miku. In short, it seems unlikely that this series will be massively equipped with the NVIDIA connector… Especially as there’s no technical justification for its deployment, as we’ve seen.
