For LG, the innovation is not only in the ability of this panel to be stretched. Its thin and light design offers “next level” versatility for a plethora of everyday scenarios. For example, a panel could easily be attached to curved surfaces such as furniture, clothing, airplanes and automobiles…Or skin as jewelry or simply a watch. Samsung is also reportedly working on an expandable display technology to accommodate many types of shapes and supports. But whether we are talking about LG or Samsung, we have been witnessing for some time a multiplication of initiatives and efforts in Research and Development. The main reason is that the Korean government wants to avoid that its national champions lose the hand to the Chinese competition more and more present on the display field. The South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) has launched a major plan since 2020 to encourage the sector in this direction.
