The Core Ultra 200K Plus is a family of processors from Intel. Its purpose is to refresh the Core Ultra 200 lineup launched in October 2024 (already!). To that end, we’re seeing higher clock speeds as well as an increase in the number of processor cores. Well, this series has just seen a price hike—a quiet MSRP adjustment made by the company. Depending on the model, prices have gone up by between $30 and $50!

The reason is still unknown!
As a reminder, the Core Ultra 7 270K was priced at $350, compared to $199 for the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and $184 for the Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus. These prices must have been too aggressive for Intel, as the new prices for these processors are now $349 for the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, $229 for the 250K Plus, and $214 for the 250KF Plus. As a result, the original prices of the two Core Ultra 5 models have increased by $30, while the Core Ultra 7 has gone up by $50.
The worst part of this story is that this price hike was revealed by a leaker, @harukaze5719. For its part, Intel is implementing a price adjustment without giving any reason or issuing a press release to announce the news.
Ever-rising production costs?
Obviously, the reasons for this increase haven’t been officially disclosed, but it’s reasonable to assume that rising production costs may be behind this price hike. In the meantime, consumers now have to pay more for a given model. This price difference will therefore have to be offset elsewhere—in the price of the case or the motherboard, for example… RAM and storage are already exorbitantly priced. In short, it’s always sad to see, especially when you consider that, based on their specs, the Core Ultra 200K Plus models seemed like a solid alternative!
