The support of AVX-512 in Alder Lake processors has had many setbacks since its launch. Indeed, between Intel’s communication and reality, many differences remain. Finally, we learn that the brand will definitely put an end to this complicated situation.

The end of AVX-512 on Alder Lake processors

When the Alder Lake processors were released, and even before, there was confusion about the support of the AVX-512 instruction, which allowed better performance and efficiency than AVX2. On the one hand, the official documents and bios that had been circulating for months or even years had confirmed its presence, while on the other hand the official communication denied this…

Finally, the first users were able to notice the presence of the instruction on their processors. However, only one condition is required to be able to use it, namely to deactivate the efficient cores and leave only the performance cores, otherwise the instruction remains disabled.

There have been attempts by Intel to ask motherboard manufacturers to update their bios, thus disabling the feature without much impact. That’s why the brand has decided to finally close this story by directly “disabling” AVX-512 on the chips.

Approached by Tom’s Hardware US intel has confirmed the removal of AVX-512 directly from the die on the entire Alder Lake range in the future, thus ending the subject of the compatibility of the latter with the 12th generation of Intel processors.
