Just over a year ago, Swiss brand Arctic brought us its Freezer 4U-M. This massive CPU Cooler was designed for Intel and AMD server platforms. Today we learn of the launch of a version 2, which gains support for ARM Ampere Altra processors.
Freezer 4U-M: now compatible with Ampere Altra!
With this product, Arctic is offering us a cooler measuring 124 (W) x 155.15 (D) x 145 (H) mm. These dimensions allow this model to fit into 4U rack servers.
What’s more, this model is clearly geared towards large sockets with its very large number of heat pipes. This model has eight 6 mm diameter heat pipes. Finally, the whole unit is surrounded by two 120 mm fans operating from 400 to 2300 rpm. All in all, the airflow is 71.90 CFM and the pressure 3.30 mmH2O, which is fairly low compared to other pro solutions.
However, the important thing to remember here is that socket compatibility is improving. While the original model was compatible with LGA-4189/4677 and AMD SP6, sTR5, SP3, TR4, sTRX4, sWRX8, this new revision gains support for Ampere platforms in LGA4926. This model is therefore compatible with Ampere Altra and Ampere Altra Max processors with 32 to 128 core configurations.
Prices are far from inflated, with the heatsink in version 2 priced at €64.99 compared with €66.99 for the natively compatible Ampere model. Alternatively, a dedicated mounting kit is available for €8.99!
