Gigabyte releases new bios updates for its Intel motherboards with 600/700 series chipsets. Where these updates come as a surprise, however, is when they mention support for next-generation Intel processors… Intel is reportedly planning to launch a new generation of CPUs on socket LGA-1700!

Gigabyte Z690 Aorus XtremeAt the same time, we’ve learned that the brand is launching a whole new batch of bios for its motherboards. This concerns Intel 600 and 700 series models. The new update includes support for next-generation Intel processors.

The question now is which generation. Rumors seem to indicate that we’re talking about Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs. The good news is that these chips are compatible with older LGA-1700 boards. So there’s no need to change motherboards.

On the other hand, there’s also the question of what these CPUs will deliver. However, we’re guessing that it’s primarily a gain in frequency. Rumors point to processors reaching up to 6.5 GHz!

Otherwise, the bios also correct a security concern present on no less than 271 of the brand’s motherboards. Diagonally, this concerns a flaw exploiting a feature linked to motherboard firmware updates. The latter would have been integrated in an insecure way, leaving the possibility for hackers to install malware in this way. This is why AM4 motherboards are also affected by this fix.
