Due to artificial intelligence and its rapid growth in recent months, memory is in short supply and prices are rising—we won’t go over the whole picture again. However, even older standards are caught up in this upward spiral, particularly DDR3. While you might think, “Nobody uses that anymore,” think again—some professional sectors are still equipped with this memory standard, for one thing. For another, demand remains steady and was even gaining popularity as recently as last January!
DDR3: This older RAM is also seeing its prices rise!
The end of Windows 10 support has really “thinned out” the market!
DDR4 and DDR5 remain newer and more powerful memory standards, which is why they’re particularly affected. Furthermore, since Windows 10 support ended, there are few Windows 11-compatible machines with DDR3, since the CPUs that support this type of memory don’t meet the requirements for installing Microsoft’s latest operating system—particularly regarding the TPM 2.0 module. As a result, while some tech-savvy users have managed to install Windows 11 on their DDR3 PCs, many users have upgraded their hardware.
Some professional sectors still have a demand for it!
Strictly speaking, while some die-hard individuals still use this memory standard, this is not the case for the majority; however, prices are still on the rise. The reason is that certain sectors still rely on this technology. Take the medical field, for example; there are also certain network systems, and so on. All these sectors continue to use this older technology—first, because it works, and second, because it isn’t always possible to replace certain machines. Especially since these systems don’t rely on Windows—Linux is at the heart of these devices.
Naturally, with production having declined over the years but demand remaining constant, we’re once again seeing some pressure on supply, driving prices upward!
