Corsair has announced that it is abandoning the old 80 standard and turning exclusively to Cybernetics. The aim? To offer more rigorously tested power supplies, with results more in line with reality.

The brand’s transition from one standard to another is simply because Cybernetics offers more comprehensive results. The Cybernetics standard doesn’t just measure energy efficiency, unlike the 80 . No, we find more elements evaluated:

  • Overall energy efficiency
  • Power factor
  • 5VSB efficiency
  • Standby power consumption

All these criteria then give the certification level in the form of : Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium and Diamod. Of course, as with the 80 standard, the higher the third-party level, the better the efficiency and the lower the power consumption. However, Cybernetics evaluates noise in addition to consos/performance, which the 80 does not do.

On the noise side, ratings range from standard to A for power supplies emitting less than 15 dB(A), depending on their test conditions. This gives a better idea of whether or not the power supply will be noisy in use.

In short, for all these reasons, Corsair now opts for the Cybernetics standard, which the brand considers more revealing of a PSU’s capabilities.
