Still on the MSI stand, a little further away from the MSI RTX 4080 SUPER EXPERT X, our team was able to discover the Spatium M580 FROZR Liquid. Rest assured, this is just a prototype. Although we’re aware that PCIe 5.0 SSDs give off quite a lot of heat and that it’s best to keep them below 50°C to ensure their performance, we can’t yet imagine such a cooling solution on our configurations.
With the Spatium M580 FROZR Liquid, MSI has developed a prototype of a standalone cooling solution to keep the Phison E26 controller used in PCIe 5.0 SSDs cool. This ‘mini AIO’ consists of a radiator, a pump, a fan and a heat pipe system. This cooling solution is of course not necessary, even though our own tests have demonstrated the benefits of having an active cooling solution on PCIe 5.0 SSDs.
Even though they can operate at temperatures above 50°C, performance may drop if these temperatures become too high. Let’s hope that this prototype remains just that, a prototype, and that we don’t have to resort to such cooling solutions in the years to come.
