Sometimes, when you’re dealing with the after-sales service of a component brand, it can feel like you’re walking on thin ice. A user sees his Ryzen 9 7950X3D, a top-of-the-range CPU, burn out, just like that, for no apparent reason in idle, but the warranty claim is refused because of damage to the substrate. In contrast, we have Gigabyte mentioning that the motherboard works well despite a bent socket pin and a corrupted BIOS that had to be redone.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you have a problem with a Ryzen CPU that burns out, make sure you burn it out without deforming the CPU’s PCB. Indeed, that’s why VINCENT199411 ‘s RMA on Reddit was refused. According to AMD’s after-sales service, the company does not cover physical damage to processors. As a result, the user is left a little… bewildered, since AMD refuses to exchange a CPU that has been running well for several years. The owner even states that he has never applied any BIOS changes to his motherboard, nor overclocked his processor. The configuration was running @stock, as they say.
A motherboard problem?
In the end, the problem was Gigabyte’s. After sending the motherboard back to the Taiwanese manufacturer, the BIOS was found to be corrupted. After flashing another BIOS and testing the board with another Ryzen 9 7950X3D, it appears that everything works perfectly. There are no short-circuits on the card. However, the after-sales service did spot some bent pins which have been straightened out. But clearly, this is linked to the deformation of the CPU substrate.
Now all that remains is to understand exactly what happened, but it’s not impossible that the 7950X3D of our user of the day took a nasty voltage spike. But that’s just a guess.
