Excellent news for AMD, which has managed to increase its market share in the x86 CPU sector. In the fourth quarter, the company had a 31.3% share, a quarter that was up from the third of 2022, according to Reuters !

31.3% market share for AMD!

La gamme des Ryzen 7000 non-XThings are not so bad for AMD which continues to gain market share from Intel. Indeed, at the end of 2022, the company had a 31.3% market share. Admittedly, compared to Intel and its 68.7% (71.5% in 2021), this may seem low, however, the company continues to increase its shares! Facing the third quarter, the company’s shares increased by 2.8%. Also note that at the end of 2021, the company was at 28.5% share.

Nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind that these companies operate in a gloomy economic context. Indeed, in 2022, CPU shipments were down 34% for the year (compared to 2021) while they lost 19% quarter-on-quarter. This represents the biggest downturn in the industry since the 1980s. Moreover, both companies saw their financial results decline, with Intel losing $700 million.

Once again, the slowdown in this sector would be primarily related to the current economic context. Between the end of telecommuting and the crisis, professionals and individuals are less in demand… But obviously, the drop in demand for AMD chips is slower than that of Intel.
