It’s a rumour that’s been coming back more and more insistently in recent days. The price of B850 motherboards could drop significantly in the near future. According to the rumour, the price of B850 motherboards could fall by the end of the year, or more precisely in the fourth quarter of 2025, simply because AMD is going to turn off the tap on the B650 chipset by switching it to EOL . We’ve seen that the B650 continues to sell well, and is even the majority choice for motherboards. Essentially, because it supports all Ryzen on AM5 without any problem, and its little brother, the B850, doesn’t really offer any revolution. And above all, because it makes motherboards available at reasonable prices. If this tap closes, the brands will be forced to cut their margins, and AMD intends to help them too with better prices. The Reds are going to have to clean up their act, as there are cards on the market equipped with B650 and B650e, X670e, X870e, B850 and X870. With Zen 6 now 1 year away, it’s time to make room.
Kill the B650 to slash the price of the B850, and make room
That’s why AMD is going to have to ramp up the B850, which is due to become the highest volume chipset from the end of the year. For the moment, there’s no indication of when the Reds are going to make the B650 reach the end of its life, but it’s the only way to force brands to stop producing cards with this chipset and sell off their stocks quickly. The B850 is actually a slight evolution of the X670, while the X870 is a pale refresh of the X670e. This game of dominoes should make it possible to reposition B850 motherboards at a much more affordable price.
