There was a time when AMD’s financial results were generally down… The situation was gloomy. But since the launch of the Ryzen CPUs, the company has been making money again, and 2024 is no exception. The brand has just published its financial results for 2024, and the data centre business is showing almost 100%!
AMD publishes its financial results, and the data centre posts +94% for the year!
Broadly speaking, the company remains in good health, with sales of $7.7 billion in Q4 2024, up 24% on Q4 2023. Over the full year (2024 vs 2023), sales rose by 14% to $25.8 billion. Gross margin rose by 3 points to 49% (53% non-GAAP).
Of course, the most lucrative sectors for the company were the data centre, which posted a small increase of 9% ($3.86 billion) in Q4 2024, followed by the client segment, which posted a solid 23% rise ($2.31 billion). The gaming segment also grew in the last quarter of the year, up 22% ($563 million), while the embedded segment remained flat, with revenues of $923 million.
Over the year as a whole, the data centre posted impressive growth of 94%, generating $12.58 billion, followed by the company’s client business with a 52% increase and sales of $7.05 billion. Unfortunately, the gaming sector, although generating $2.6 billion, is not progressing, but has fallen back compared to last year (2023) with a drop of 58%… A similar situation has arisen in the embedded sector, with revenues down 33% on 2023, to $3.56 billion.
Clearly, the gaming segment is running out of steam, and the brand needs new products to revitalise this sector. The RX 7000s have been around for a while, and we suspect that graphics card buyers will prefer to wait for the launch of the RX 9000 before making a new purchase.
