Sometimes, thanks to the internet, we can make interesting discoveries. Here, it is about a graphics card, more precisely about a prototype not launched. Indeed, on Reddit the user NeedsMoreGPUs was able to get his hands on an unlaunched RADEON Pro. He shares his discovery with us!

Discovery of an unlaunched RADEON Pro prototype!

RADEON Pro prototype VEGA 20During its existence, the Vega 20 GPU has had many different variations. However, the versions with a full chip are quite few. We can count on the RADEON Pro Vega II/Duo and the Instinct Mi60. However, AMD was working on a prototype that never saw the light of day, a hypothetical RADEON Pro V420.

As you can see, this model comes with a turbine-type heatsink, rather classic for a pro card. It also benefits from a dual power supply connector. It requires an 8-pin PCIe connector and a second 6-pin connector, which can supply up to 300W to the card, including the PCIe power supply of the motherboard.

The redditor also shares a picture of the PCB of the card. On it, we can quickly see the test connectors related to the development of the card. In addition, we quickly notice the GPU located in the middle. This Vega 20 chip is complete and contains all 4096 stream processors allowed by the GCN 5.1 architecture. We also notice the four HBM2 memory stacks that surround it. So we have 32 GB of memory based on a 4096 bit bus allowing a bandwidth of 819.2 GB/s.

Finally, some tests have been carried out with this model. In real conditions, we find a card running at 1700 MHz maximum. As for the memory, via an Aida64 test, we notice that it reads at 6614 MB/s while it writes at 6366 MB/s. However, we are curious to see the temperature and stress consumption of such a model.
