Back to the RAM market, where prices are rising at breakneck speed. In fact, a TrendForce report shows that, since September, 2x8Gb DDR5 memory chips have risen by 307%! Flash memory for SSDs has also been affected.
307% for 2x8Gb DDR5!
At the moment, it’s best not to dwell too much on the price of DDR5 memory if you don’t want to have a meltdown. Indeed, prices are skyrocketing to the point of insanity. Last time, we were talking about 172% over one year, now TrendForce reports a 307% rise on the spot market since September for 2x8Gb DDR5 configurations, before the market went into overdrive. But DDR4 configurations have not been spared either, with 1Gbx8 up 158%, while DDR4 1x8Gb at 3200 MT/s is still up 4.75%.
In flash memory, too, there’s no joy, according to the same TrendForce report. In this sector, for the week from November 12th to 28th, the price of 512 Gb TLC chips rose by 14.97%. All this is also reflected in the prices of finished products such as M.2 SSDs. However, as the increase is less meteoric, prices are also rising more slowly.
In any case, on the DDR5 RAM market, price rises are already underway. Once again, on Amazon, the price of our 2×16 GB Corsair Vengeance 6000 MT/s kit has literally doubled, from just under €100 last August to €200 today.
Be that as it may, all this is having deleterious consequences, since until the rise stabilizes, purchases are likely to decline. On the market, transaction volumes are visibly declining. But these high prices are also a godsend for the various producers, providing them with the means to deliver strong quarterly results.
